Improving Diversity and Access in Marine Science – Project Coordinator

Description of Internship or Research Opportunity: Mote Marine Laboratory is hiring a Project Coordinator for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation: Marine Science Laboratory Alliance Center for Excellence (LSAMP MarSci-LACE). MarSci-LACE is a 3-year National Science Foundation funded project with the goal to help increase underrepresented minority participation in Marine STEM fields through hands-on research experiences at the undergraduate level.

Under the supervision of the Project Director, the Project Coordinator will oversee project and research operations to successfully meet MARSCI-LACE’s stated objectives and outcomes. The Project Coordinator will also assist with grant related communication, grant tracking, purchasing, meeting planning, travel logistics, and ensure adherence to Mote Marine Laboratory (MML) procedures and grant requirements.

Responsibilities include:
Maintain communication between grant partners, stakeholders, students, scientist mentors and other staff
Oversee the administration of data collection efforts including ethical handling of participant information and records
Qualitative and quantitative data collection activities related to the research under the direction of Project Director
Assist with data analysis and reporting
Work with other project staff on strategic planning for future grant activities
Assist with website content and updates, including MarSci-LACE Resource Center
Develop promotional and reporting materials such as newsletters, brochures, and reports
Coordinate planning and logistics of annual conference and meetings
Work in collaboration with other grant staff to facilitate professional development opportunities, including virtual training events, for science mentors, faculty and students
Oversee the administrative aspects of the MarSci-LACE Project including maintenance of calendars, preparation of correspondence, planning of events, meeting minutes, and other administrative functions
Oversee tracking of project progress and maintenance of timeline
Respond to inquiries received from collaborators, stakeholders, NSF and LSAMP networks and social media in a timely and courteous manner
Seek out and contribute to complimentary and synergistic opportunities and activities
Other grant-related duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The MarSci-LACE Project Coordinator requires a deep and unwavering belief in the goals of this project and an established commitment to improving access and equality in the science community. Working Hours:
MarSci-LACE Project Coordinator is a federal grant funded, full time position and is scheduled typically Mon-Fri with occasional evenings and weekends.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
2 or more years in a project coordination, research, education, communication role preferred
Experience working with diverse audiences
Experience with MS Office; Qualtrics experience preferred
U.S. citizenship or foreign citizen’s U.S. work permit appropriate for the work
Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills
Able to problem solve quickly
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Able to occasionally work flexible hours
